TEOAE and ABR as a Newborn Hearing Screening

Abstract
Background: Early detection and intervention of neonatal hearing loss was very important for cognition and socialemotional development. The purpose of this study is to establish a useful screening method adjusted to our country
and to emphasize the importance of early diagnosis of neonatal hearing loss.

Meterials and Method: TEOAE and ABR was performed in 193 infants, at Konyang university hospital. All infants who have high risk factor of hearing impairment was selected in the Department of Pediatrics. Hearing loss was confirmed by ABR.

Results: 27 neonates who has hearing impairment was confirmed by ABR. The sensitivity and specificity of TEOAE of this study was 78% and 69%. and False negative Default of TEOAE was 4% (response 5dB and Reproducibility 50%). Twenty-eight out of 193 infants failed to follow-up at our study. Conclusions: Combination method of TEOAE and ABR is useful screening method for the identification of hearing loss in infants, especially in this country.
